E-RATE

The E-Rate program represents a major source of aid for schools and libraries. Established by the Federal Communications Commission in 1996, E-Rate helps these institutions pay for their telecommunications components and installations by reimbursing many of the associated expenses.

Who Can Benefit from E-Rate?

If your school or library:

Is a not-for profit institution,

Has an endowment of less than $50 million,

Complies with CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) requirements,

Qualifies as a secondary school, elementary school, library, or library consortium as defined by federal laws

…then you can most likely benefit from this program!

E-Rate telecommunications reimbursements fall into two categories:

  • Category 1 - Internet and data transmission services.

  • Category 2 - Hardware such as wiring, wireless components, firewalls, and other telecommunication necessities.

If you submit a successful bid for support under the E-Rate program, you could receive reimbursement for as much as 90 percent of these telecommunications expenses.
